Hazmat spill closes all lanes on eastbound North Loop near Homestead

A hazmat spill has closed all eastbound lanes on the North Loop near Homestead, Houston police said.

A tanker truck crashed into a concrete barrier on the highway before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The truck has been removed from the scene, but hazmat teams are still cleaning up the area, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Westbound lanes were closed temporarily because of the possibility of flammable fumes but are reopen.

The eastbound lanes should be closed until at least 12:30 or 1 p.m., the state agency said on Twitter.
